New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees called it a career after the 2020 NFL season. But, of course, that never stops people from wondering whether or not a player will wind up deciding to return.

However, it looks like Brees is actually done for good and won't be returning if a team in need of a quarterback comes calling. He admitted as much in an interview with Mike Tirico for this week's edition of Football Morning in America:

“I better get my butt going if that’s the case. There is a saying that if you don’t use it, you lose it. That’s the truth, my arm is killing me because I haven’t been training to throw. I actually feel worse now than at any other point in my career. I may have one throw, one series, one drive.”

There you have it.

Perhaps Drew Brees could get back into playing shape, but it sure seems like he doesn't have much interest in doing that. The 42-year-old is preparing for work as an NFL analyst for NBC and as a Notre Dame announcer. That should keep him busy and help scratch that football itch after a long and illustrious NFL career.

Brees entered the NFL all the way back in 2001 as a member of the San Diego Chargers. He didn't really blossom into a future Hall of Famer until joining the Saints for the 2006 season.

The quarterback spent 15 seasons in New Orleans, going to 12 Pro Bowls and winning one Super Bowl. After being so durable for much of his career, injuries started to catch up to Drew Brees in the last few years, leading to his retirement.

In 2020, Brees played 12 games and threw for 2,942 yards and 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions. While still a mostly effective quarterback, his arm strength had clearly declined, and he really struggled in the playoff loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Drew Brees should just enjoy retirement. He has nothing left to prove and should make for a good announcer.
