ESPN analyst and former NFL player Booger McFarland was very vocal on the plight of recently released  Dwayne Haskins from the Washington Football Team. He said that the young African American players which constitute almost 70% of the league are too concerned with their brand, especially on social media.

McFarland touched on a point saying that the players are being paid a ton of money to play the game of football. They shouldn't merely approach it as a game but more so, as a billion-dollar business. Often times, players worry about posting their workouts and training sessions on Instagram, only to come out with a dismal performance come game time.

The two-time Super Bowl champion suggested that instead of caring for their brand on social media, the players should exert more effort on making a bigger impact for their teams on and off the field.

He continued, “Dwayne Haskins unfortunately is not the first case that I’ve seen like this and it won’t be the last. And it bothers me because a lot of it is the young African-American player. They come in and they don’t take this as a business. It is still a game to them.”

“My message to Dwayne Haskins, not just him, but the rest of the young players in the NFL [is], man, this is a game, but take it as a business. There are billions, with a ‘B,’ of dollars at stake, and until you start approaching this game that way, until you start coming to work saying… ‘how can I put my organization first instead of my damn Instagram?’ Take it as a serious business! But too many times it’s a game, we want to TikTok, we want to do all these other things. Man, do you understand how much money is at stake?”

Dwayne Haskins, who was selected by Washington with the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, underperformed and failed to live up to the billing of a franchise quarterback during his stint in the nation's capital. He served as the starter for the team in his rookie campaign but was eventually relegated to the backseat after he continued with his struggles under center.

The former Ohio State standout saw his two-year tenure come to an end after he was previously outperformed by returning veteran Alex Smith who is coming off a long period of recovery from his gruesome leg injury suffered two years ago.

Washington currently holds a 6-9 record heading to Week 17 action. The team can finally clinch the NFC East division title and secure their postseason seat with a crucial victory in their final game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 3.
