The Detroit Lions fired head coach Matt Patricia on Saturday and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Darius Slay took to Twitter to react to his former NFL head coach getting the boot.

To recall, Slay didn't have a good relationship with Patricia on the Lions and has never shied away from bashing the former New England Patriots defensive coordinator.

Darius Slay lost all respect for Matt Patricia in 2018 when the former Lions coach told him he wasn’t “elite.” Detroit wound up trading Slay to the Eagles in March of 2020 and the veteran NFL defender is thrilled to be away from Patricia.

During an interview with ESPN in March of 2020, Slay recounted the talk he had with Patricia that left him very confused.

“I’m like, ‘Huh?’ I said, ‘Huh.’ I’m trying to see where he’s coming at. He said I wasn’t an elite corner and that I’m not in their category. I was coming off an All-Pro year, eight picks,” Slay said. “That told me right there that he didn’t have no respect for me. He told me I was a good player, but then to tell me what I’m not, so I said, OK. I just took that to the chin and said, ‘OK, that’s cool.’ Then I bounced back to two back-to-back Pro Bowlers on him. Let him know how elite I was.”

It's safe to say no one in the Lions organization is going to miss Patricia, who just doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach in the NFL.
