It should be a very busy weekend in the NFL, as five more teams can clinch playoff berths this weekend, per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
The New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Seattle Seahawks can all punch their ticket to the dance, giving them all the opportunity to join the Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Los Angeles Rams, teams that have already clinched playoff spots.
The Patriots and Texans will both need some help to achieve this goal. While New England needs to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston must emerge victorious over the New York Jets, the Pats will also need a Miami Dolphins loss to clinch the AFC East or a loss or tie by the Tennessee Titans. In a more unlikely scenario, the Patriots can also tie and snatch a berth if the Titans, Baltimore Ravens, and Indianapolis Colts all fall (the Colts can also tie).
As for the Texans, they can clinch the AFC South in one of two ways. Either they win and get a Colts loss or tie coupled with a Tennessee loss or tie, or they can tie and clinch if the Colts and Titans both lose.
They can also clinch a playoff berth in general in a myriad of scenarios. Basically, the Texans just need to win.
Things are a bit easier for the NFC teams. If the Bears beat the Green Bay Packers, they win the NFC North. If the Cowboys top Indianapolis, they capture the NFC East crown. If the Seahawks defeat the San Francisco 49ers, they clinch a playoff spot.
All in all, it should be a very interesting week of football, so keep your eyes peeled to the scoreboard.
