Former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr. has been found guilty of rape.

According to The Associated Press (via ESPN), a San Diego jury convicted the 35-year-old Winslow of raping a 58-year-old homeless woman last year.

Former NFL player Kellen Winslow, Jr. has been convicted for raping a 58-year-old homeless woman last year north of San Diego.

A jury returned the verdict Monday in San Diego Superior Court in Vista but was continuing to deliberate on two more counts of rape involving a hitchhiker and an unconscious teenage girl.

The jury also found him guilty of indecent exposure and lewd conduct, but found him not guilty of one count of a lewd act, which prosecutors had said happened in front of a 77-year-old woman in a hot tub in nearby Carlsbad.

Winslow, who played for (the) Cleveland (Browns), Tampa Bay (Buccaneers), New England (Patriots), and the New York Jets, faces up to life in prison if convicted of all counts.

The five women testified during the nine-day trial, per The Associated Press. The 58-year-old homeless woman told the jury Winslow invited her for a coffee in May 2018. He then attacked her next to his vehicle. A few months later, a 57-year-old woman claimed Winslow exposed himself to her while she did the gardening.

In the aftermath of these alleged attacks, The Associated Press report says a woman claimed Winslow raped her when she was 17 years old in 2003. She claims a 19-year-old Winslow assaulted her after she passed out at a party in San Diego.

The 77-year-old woman went to the same Carlsbad gym as Winslow. She testified “he committed lewd acts in front of her,” per The Associated Press.

As for the 54-year-old hitchhiker, she testified Winslow “drove her to an Encinitas shopping center parking lot and raped her in his Hummer in March 2018,” per The Associated Press.

For his part, Winslow did not take the stand. According to The Associated Press report, his defense team insisted there were “inconsistencies in the accusers' testimonies and argued the women invented the allegations to prey on the wealth of Winslow.”

In addition, Winslow's legal team insists he had consensual sex with the accusers. The Associated Press report says his lawyers insist he “had cheated on his wife repeatedly.”

On the other hand, prosecuting attorney Dan Owens told the jury Winslow is a “wolf in sheep's clothing,” per The Associated Press.

Winslow caught for 5,236 yards and 25 touchdowns on 469 receptions in his nine-year NFL career.
