A new poll conducted by Yahoo News/YouGov has found that a majority of Americans are okay with NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. 52 percent of women and men that were polled during the survey were okay with players kneeling to protest police killings of African Americans. The younger a person was, the more likely they were going to be okay with players taking a knee before games.

“For the question “Is it OK for NFL players to kneel during the national anthem to protest police killings of African Americans?” both male and female respondents agreed that it was, by a margin of 52 percent to 37 percent (male) and 52 percent to 34 percent (female). Younger respondents tended to be more favorable to the idea, with 68 percent of those 18-29 agreeing that it was. That number steadily declined to 36 percent of respondents over 65.”

This is a big jump in support from the last time that a poll like this was run. Back in 2018 when the same poll was run, only 35 percent of people questioned said they supported players kneeling.

Compared to when Colin Kaepernick first kneeled, it seems the world is in a different place. There has been more outcry about police brutality after the death of George Floyd who was in police custody when he died.

Roger Goodell has also acknowledged that the NFL didn’t do enough earlier to support players, something that is a bit shocking after how much pushback there was about the kneeling. The big question to watch going towards the season is how many players will be kneeling. Adrian Peterson has already said that he will be taking a knee this upcoming season.
