Week 3 of the 2019 NFL season will feature a showdown between two of the most talented, young quarterbacks in the league with Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens. It appears both players are coming off rather historic performances heading into their matchup.

Mahomes and Jackson became the first players in NFL history to throw for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions while completing 70% of their passes through the first two games, via NFL Research:

Lamar Jackson & Patrick Mahomes are the only QBs in the Super Bowl era to have a 70+ comp pct, 7+ pass TD & 0 INT over the first two games of a season

Jackson: 71.9 comp pct, 7 TD, 145.2 passer rating
Mahomes: 71.4 comp pct, 7 TD, 136.3 rating

Their performance heading into this week have only provided further intrigue surrounding this matchup. It is safe to say that fans are expecting there to be quite the high-scoring affair between these two teams.

Both players have seemingly emerged as the new prototypes for NFL quarterbacks. Not only are they capable of picking apart defenses with their arm but their ability to make plays with their legs brings another explosive dynamic to the offense.

Mahomes is clearly picking up right where he left off during his MVP campaign in 2018. Although the recent injury to Tyreek Hill has left a notable void in his receiving corps, he has had no problems making do with the other weapons in his repertoire.

Meanwhile, Jackson has come a long way since fending off questions about his future as a running back.

A win against the high-powered Chiefs would be another defining statement for those that doubted his ability to play quarterback in the NFL.
