The officiating in the NFL and NCAA has been under more scrutiny than ever in 2019. During the college playoff semi-finals game between Oklahoma and LSU, Reggie Bush blasted the referees and says there needs to be an age limit.

The former collegiate star and NFL running back took to social media following a non-call in Saturday's bowl game between the Sooners and Tigers. The non-call involved a wide receiver for Oklahoma being tackled by a defender before the ball arrived.

Without a doubt, a penalty should have been called on the defender for defensive pass interference. Instead, the referee right in front of the play swallowed his whistle and allowed the game to go on.

The NCAA hasn't been the only league that has been negatively affected by bad officiating. In the NFL this season, there has been a bevy of missed or wrongly called penalties by officials.

As a result, plenty of players and coaches have been fined for criticizing the officiating. Until the NFL and NCAA choose to make a change, no one should expect any improvements to be made in the near future.

Bush believes that making an age requirement would fix the issues with the referees. But it's hard to envision either the NFL or NCAA enforcing an age requirement for official anytime soon.

That would involve both corporations to incorporate a referee-like combine that test the athletic ability of referees. Regardless of what they choose to do, they wouldn't be able to find a referee fast enough to keep up with Bush in his prime.
