NFL free agent Tyrann Mathieu is looking for a new home, but he is staying patient and trusting the process as he considers his options.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mathieu is not rushing getting a deal done, which is probably why he left NOLA without a deal from the New Orleans Saints after his latest visit. However, the veteran NFL safety did say he wants to return to Louisiana and join the Saints even though they don't have much need for him.

“I have a great relationship with Cam Jordan, Marshon Lattimore,” Mathieu said about his visit in New Orleans and the possibility of joining the Saints. “The list goes on and on. Any time I see the Saints play defense, I always tap myself on the shoulder and say, ‘Hey, I could probably roll with those guys.’ Those guys have done a great thing. The last couple years, they’ve been like top five in defense. I don’t think they really need me, but it would be good to go back home and help them win.”

Rapoport's latest update corroborates Jeremy Fowler's report for ESPN where he shared that the 29-year-old is not rushing into a decision and weighing his options since he “probably wants to go to a contender (via Bleacher Report).

The Pittsburgh Steelers are said to have interest, but they only have $13.5 million in cap space.

It is also worth noting that some potential suitors are said to be concerned about Tyrann Mathieu's overall condition given that he has tons of wear and tear in his body over a career that has already spanned nine seasons. The big question for NFL teams is whether they can still get the same Mathieu who earned three Pro Bowl nods and helped the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV.

“The concern from some teams I talk to is that maybe Mathieu has lost a step because he's played nine years, a lot of mileage,” Fowler added in his previous report.

For what it's worth, Mathieu is coming off another Pro Bowl season where he recorded 76 total tackles–60 of which are solo–along with one sack and three fumble recoveries. He also had three interceptions and six passes defended, proving that he can still be a big contributor for a contending team.

He is still the best free agent safety in the market, so the expectation is it won't really be long before he makes his decision for his next NFL team.
