Jadeveon Clowney is one of the biggest names that remain in free agency and it doesn't appear he's in any rush to sign with a team. While he continues to wait patiently, some teams believe Clowney could wait until training camp to sign with a team, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.
The former No. 1 pick entered free agency with the intention of getting a long-term deal worth upwards of $20 million annually. However, with teams already using most of their cap space, there aren't many teams that could afford him.
At the same time, teams are wary of signing Clowney, who is coming off an injury and a disappointing season in 2019. Nevertheless, Clowney seems content playing the waiting game until he finds the deal he likes.
Last offseason, Jadeveon Clowney was traded to the Seattle Seahawks after spending five seasons with the Houston Texans. In his first season with the Seahawks, Clowney managed to record three sacks and four forced fumbles.
Of course, Seattle would love to keep Clowney for the foreseeable future. But it would have to come at a reasonable price that doesn't limit the Seahawks financially down the road.
With teams shifting their focus to the 2020 NFL Draft, it's unlikely that Clowney receives the contract he envisioned himself getting. Therefore, regardless of where he signs, it will probably be a one-year deal that allows him to test free agency next offseason.
There's no doubt that Clowney is a talented player that could make a difference for just about every team in the NFL. However, due to his steep asking price, it may be quite some time before we hear about Clowney signing somewhere this offseason.
