The Arizona Cardinals offseason continues the downward trend they have been experiencing since the playoffs ended. They got thumped by the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round, their division rival and eventual Super Bowl winner. It sent them into an offseason that has been anything but productive.
The odd, dramatic behavior from Kyler Murray on social media (which has now been resolved) followed by an awkward acknowledgment from Chandler Jones about his contract situation, the Cardinals have not gotten the chance to do much this offseason.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are releasing linebacker Jordan Hicks in order to make more room for Isaiah Simmons and Zaven Collins. The move opens up $6 million of cap space.
Arizona Cardinals are releasing LB Jordan Hicks, per source. Hicks played at a high level last season, registering 118 tackles and four sacks, but the Cardinals have to let their young first-round ILBs play, and now are letting Hicks hit the market early.

With Jones seemingly gone, the Cardinals will have to make sure they keep enough key pieces intact. Christian Kirk has a lot of suitors and DeAndre Hopkins is still recovering from a knee injury, though, so Arizona needs to figure out a lot in order to return to the postseason. Their 4-6 record down the stretch of the regular season showed that they were not as good as their early record indicated.
Hicks should see a lot of interest in the open market. The 29-year-old recorded 116 total tackles and seven tackles for loss last season. Arizona's move shows a lot of faith in Simmons and Collins. The youngsters will have to step up in order to get the Cardinals back in contention.
