The general consensus is that the Arizona Cardinals will be taking Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray with the first pick of the NFL Draft later this month, which is an indication that the Cardinals will be trading away last year's first-round draft choice, fellow signal-caller Josh Rosen.
But is that a guarantee?
Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk doesn't seem to think so, saying that there is no reason why Arizona can't take Murray while also keeping Rosen on the roster to serve as Murray's backup.
Last year, the Cardinals dealt a first-round pick, a third-rounder and a fifth-rounder to trade up and take Rosen at No. 10 overall, so they do have some incentive to keep him around, especially considering that his cap hit is only $4 million heading into 2019.
Article Continues BelowPlus, right now, the chatter is that Rosen's trade value is not that high, with some speculating that he would not fetch the Cards anything more than a third-round draft pick if they did decide to move him.
Also, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network recently reported that the Cardinals are not in any rush to trade Rosen and could end up keeping both Murray and Rosen if they don't receive any offers they like.
All of that being said, it does seem somewhat hard to imagine Arizona entering 2019 with both guys on its roster, as you would think the Cardinals would rather cash out on Rosen for an extra pick now rather than sit on him for another year or two.
Of course, Arizona could also let Murray and Rosen battle it out of for the starting quarterback job in training camp, but it seems like we all know how that movie would end.
