Arizona Cardinals defensive star Chandler Jones is having the best season of his career, but he doesn't think he's doing enough because his team isn't winning.
Jones has played seven games this season, racking up eight hits on the quarterback, 6.5 sacks, six tackles for losses, four batted balls, four pass breakups, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. This has been the most productive year of his career across the board, but the Cardinals only have one win.
“I'm not having a Defensive Player of the Year type of year, because if I was, I would be helping the team win more,” Jones said via ESPN. “That's how I look at it.
Jones also said for as good of a season as he has had he is clearly not doing enough because his team is currently sitting at 1-6.
“I'm the type of player that's putting it all on me. A lot of plays I left out there. Some people can say I've had a decent season. A lot of times when you talk about Defensive Player of the Year, which ultimately should be every defensive player's goal, when you talk about things like that, one of the biggest factors is, what's the team's record. How is he helping the team win? What is Chandler Jones doing to help the team win? Right now, at 1-6, I'm not doing enough.”
Jones is right that he probably won't win the Defensive Player of the Year, but he really can't do much more to help the Cardinals win. The stats show he is doing everything he can, and the other guys around him need to step up.
