The Washington Redskins made headlines when they cut safety D.J. Swearinger. After being claimed by the Arizona Cardinals questions have been raised regarding Pro Bowl representation.

Swearinger was chosen as an alternate for the Pro Bowl last week following an impressive 2018 campaign. According to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, he will wear his Cardinals helmet in Orlando:

PFT put that question to the league office, and we were told that if Swearinger plays in the Pro Bowl, he will wear a Cardinals helmet.

Swearinger initially wanted to wear his helmet from college. After all, his desire to not want to represent Washington is certainly understandable. Not surprisingly, the NFL denied his request, and he has since decided on the Cardinals helmet.

It is not often a Pro Bowl safety gets cut from his team before the season ends. However, Swearinger's brutal honesty regarding the state of Washington's franchise led them to part ways. Although he claims they did not give him a clear explanation, it appears his criticism of the team's inner workings was too much for them to handle. As a result, outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan and tackle Trent Williams will be there only representatives in the Pro Bowl this year.

The Cardinals are certainly happy to have another Pro Bowler on their roster. The team has largely been buoyed by the presence of wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and cornerback Patrick Peterson this season. Swearinger enjoyed a breakout 2016 campaign before signing a three-year deal with Washington. He now has an opportunity to finish what he started in Arizona.
