The Arizona Cardinals have backed their way into the playoffs. After starting the season 7-0, they finished the year going 4-6. They lost four of their final five games, including a game vs. the Los Angeles Rams. That is exactly who they will face this weekend in their NFC wild card showdown.
It was reported that future Hall of Fame defensive lineman J.J. Watt was designated to return earlier Wednesday.
If he is able to suit up Monday night, that would be a big boost. A boost not only to the team physically, but also psychologically. The Cardinals are 7-0 in games Watt has played in this year. You can bet his teammates would have an edge to them if Watt is leading them on the field.
He is expected to join the team at practice on Thursday. Speaking to the media Wednesday, Watt talked about how he was able to beat the odds and get back much sooner than expected. He also talked about what his plans are for Monday, saying “If there is an opportunity to get back on the field and to be with your guys and to win football games you're going to do whatever physically possible to do that.”
Watt initially tore his labrum, bicep and rotator cuff while dislocating his shoulder. It was thought to be a season-ending injury, but that did not prove to be the case if he suits up against the Rams.
The Cardinals and the Rams split the season series, with each team winning on the road. The NFC Super Wild Card game is Monday night in Los Angeles.
