The Arizona Cardinals were hoping to end their abysmal 2018 NFL season on a high note with an upset victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Unfortunately, they may be a bit shorthanded with the absence of tight end Ricky Seals-Jones.
Seals-Jones has been unable to practice all week due to a shoulder injury. According to NFL Network's James Palmer, he has officially been ruled out of the season finale:
Cardinals TE Ricky Seals-Jones (shoulder) is out vs SEA
Seals-Jones suffered the shoulder injury during Arizona's loss to the Los Angeles Rams last week. His status was likely determined by his inability to practice this week. As a result, his 2018 campaign is officially after another quiet season.
Seals-Jones has shown plenty of flashes of promise since signing with Arizona prior to the 2017 NFL season. Unfortunately, he still has yet to show any signs of consistency. He largely played a modest role on offense this season after registering 34 receptions for 343 yards and a touchdown. However, his numbers are largely indicative of a Cardinals offense that ranked dead last in the league this season.
It is no secret that the Cardinals are currently in the midst of a grueling rebuild. They finally made a move to acquire a potential franchise quarterback in Josh Rosen this season. Although the jury is still out on Rosen, it would be wise for Seals-Jones to try and build a rapport with him over the offseason. His skill set as a receiving tight end could pay huge dividends for the young quarterback come next year.
