When the Baltimore Ravens selected wide receiver Marquise Brown with the 25th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, they knew they were getting a talented playmaker to add to their young offense. Unfortunately for them, they’ll have just a bit longer to see it on the field.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, the first-round pick won’t be on the field during the Ravens OTAs next week, as he’s still recovering from his Lisfranc surgery. The surgery stems from a foot injury that Brown suffered during the Big 12 Championship Game for Oklahoma. Brown has since lost the boot that his foot was on, and has begun some light running and other activities.

While the foot injury might have impacted some of his draft stock, the promise of the athlete that Brown can be certainly didn’t do much to deter teams from taking him. Not only was he still a first-round selection, but he’ll be looked at to contribute once he hits the field, as he’ll likely become one of the top targets for quarterback Lamar Jackson once the regular season kicks off.

In the meantime, the Ravens will begin preparing for the 2019 season without him and look to continue on their stellar 2018 season, which saw a playoff berth and the rise of a new franchise quarterback in Jackson. With a ferocious defense already in place, the Ravens can cement themselves as one of the best teams in the AFC if Jackson and the Ravens offense takes a leap in the next year, which isn't out of the question given the talent on the team.
