The Baltimore Ravens have brought forth many questions surrounding the quarterback position after the selection of former Louisville standout Lamar Jackson in the first round of this year's draft.
Despite this noise around the team in that regard, rookie tight end Hayden Hurst stated during an interview on Sirius XM NFL Radio that the quarterbacks on the team trust him to make plays with the ball. (h/t Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk)
“It’s been awesome,” Hurst said on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn. “They both bring different things to the table. Joe has an extremely talented arm. He’s been doing it for years, Super Bowl MVP. And, of course, Lamar brings a whole different dynamic with his legs to the game. Both of those guys can throw it where they want it. They’ll put it up even when I’m not open and they trust me to go make a play. And that’s what I tell them I’m going to do: ‘If you’re ever in trouble, just put it up. I’m going to make a play for you guys.'”
The Ravens have high hopes for Hurst to develop into a high-impact player out of the gate after proving to be one of the top tight ends in the nation at the collegiate level. There is an opportunity in front of him to quickly grab ahold of the starting job role where he can be a primary factor in the passing game for whichever quarterback the team leans on next season.
The fact that he has already garnered a high level of trust from each of the quarterbacks shows what type of talent that Hurst has on the field. Granted, the Ravens have yet to go through training camp with the pads on, it is an encouraging sign that he's making headway with his chemistry with the quarterbacks.
Ultimately, time will tell if that can translate to him experiencing success on the field in the 2018 season.
