The Baltimore Ravens are closing in on a deal with linebacker Shane Ray, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The contract is pending a physical.

Ray spent the 2018 campaign with the Denver Broncos, where he played in 11 games and finished with 10 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Missouri, was originally selected by the Broncos in the first round (23rd pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, totaling 20 tackles and four sacks in what ended up being a Super Bowl-winning season for Denver.

Then, the following season, Ray had a breakout year, racking up 48 tackles, eight sacks, a forced fumble, a couple of fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

He appeared to be on the verge of stardom, but then, injuries struck.

In July 2017, Ray suffered a torn ligament in his wrist that ended up knocking him out for the first half of the season. He was then placed on the injured reserve list for good later that December after undergoing a third wrist surgery. Overall, Ray played in eight games in 2017.

Then, this past year, Ray once again underwent another wrist surgery, which caused him to miss five games and bumped him out of the starting lineup for good.

The Ravens, who have seen their defense take a big hit this offseason, are obviously hoping that Ray can remain healthy and regain the form in 2016 that saw him develop into one of the better pass-rushing linebackers in football.
