The Tampa Bay Buccaneers survived another offseason without having to worry about who their quarterback would be. After a scary few weeks, Tom Brady eventually came out of retirement and vowed his allegiance to the Buccaneers for at least another season.
However, earlier this month, a rumor came out that Brady was considering coming out of retirement to call plays for another team — the Miami Dolphins.
Rumor has it that Brady didn't originally mention the New England Patriots in his retirement announcement because he planned on facing them twice a year with Miami, since both teams are members of the AFC East. In other words, the conspiracy claims that Brady's retirement was more of a scheme to work his way to Miami than a plan to stop playing in the NFL.
However, according to Jenna Laine of ESPN, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht denied any conversations regarding Brady headed to Miami. He also denied any talks of a future contract for the quarterback in Tampa Bay.
“No, we haven't had those discussions. The only discussions I've had, we've had, with Tom has been, he came back and we're excited about this year and we're excited to get going.”
Brady is back with the Buccaneers for the 2022-2023 season, and, according to Licht, it doesn't go any deeper than that. This should be enough for Tampa Bay fans, who, for a large part of the offseason, thought that they'd never see Brady on an NFL field again.
