The Buffalo Bills are not pursuing free-agent quarterback Cam Newton, according to Vic Carucci of The Buffalo News.
This does not come as much of a surprise, as the Bills seem committed to Josh Allen under center moving forward. However, Buffalo had recently been mentioned as a potential landing spot by some.
Newton was cut by the Carolina Panthers last month.
The 30-year-old spent the first nine years of his career with the Panthers and is coming off of a 2019 campaign in which he played just two games due to a foot injury. He underwent surgery to repair the issue earlier this offseason.
Newton, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by Carolina with the first overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. It didn't take long for Newton to establish himself as one of the league's most exciting young stars, as he made the Pro Bowl during his rookie year.
Newton's best season came during the 2015-16 campaign, when he won the MVP award and led the Panthers to a 15-1 record en route to a Super Bowl appearance.
However, Newton has not been the same since.
The College Park, GA native has undergone a pair of shoulder procedures since the end of 2016 and has appeared to have diminished arm strength as a result.
He has not made the Pro Bowl since that aforementioned 2015-16 season.
Newton does not have many potential suitors at this stage, with the Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots apparently his only possible options. Whether or not one of those clubs decides to sign him remains to be seen.
