The Buffalo Bills loaded up on the running back position in free agency and the draft, but according to general manager Brandon Beane, the team will still rely on LeSean McCoy to be its main ballcarrier.

“LeSean McCoy is still here,” Beane said (via New York Upstate). “Before you ask that question he’s still the starter. We roll the ball out, there’s no questions about that.”

While that might be not be too shocking to hear, the Bills did spend a good portion of their offseason acquiring other running backs.

After signing both Frank Gore and T.J. Yeldon to contracts, the Bills then drafted Florida Atlantic’s Devin Singletary with the 74th pick (third round) in the 2019 NFL Draft. While many thought the Bills wouldn’t be looking at running back after acquiring Gore and Yeldon, Beane simply followed his board.

“We followed the board and (Devin) was sticking out,” Beane said. “We felt like he was the best player on the board and you gotta follow that. We know we’ve got some age there too and so to add a young guy, we felt like was a smart move. Not only for this year but for the future.”

Where it was once a weakness, the Bills now have an extremely deep group of players, but it seems LeSean McCoy will still be getting the heavy share of carries, at least for now. In the meantime, it’ll be interesting to see which back wins the backup role in what promises to be a competitive training camp.
