Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is in concussion protocol after a brutal helmet-t0-helmet hit from New England Patriots cornerback Jonathan Jones, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Down by six in the fourth quarter and building a drive, Allen scrambled and was tackled down by Jones' hit. The helmet-to-helmet hit came while Allen was being brought down by another Patriot.

“There’s no room in football for that,” coach Sean McDermott said, via Ryan Hannable of WEEI. “It is a shame to see a player like Josh, or any player for that matter, go down on a hit like that…”I asked for an explanation. I thought he should have been thrown out. Other than that, I am not going to get into that at all. That is for the league to get into.”

Jones was flagged for Unnecessary Roughness, though it didn't move chains as the Bills warranted an offensive penalty on the same play. According to NFL head of officiating Al Riveron, the hit did not “rise to the level” of disqualification, per a media pool report.

Jones clarified that he has no intention to hurt anybody on the gridiron.

“I’ll have to watch it on film. I was just running around playing football,” said Jones, via Matt Vautour of MassLive. “There’s no intent to ever hurt anyone. I don’t think anyone ever tries to go helmet to helmet. Everyone is just flying around trying to make plays.”

For now, Allen is in concussion protocol, and it is unclear if the NFL will fine or suspend Jones for the hit.
