Over the last few months, Buffalo Bills star running back LeSean McCoy has been under scrutiny due to his potential involvement with a home invasion at a house he owned, where his ex-girlfriend allegedly was hurt.
Despite the ongoing investigation into the situation, his status for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens hasn't changed, according to Mark Maske of The Washington Post.
Article Continues BelowRunning back LeSean McCoy is eligible to play in the Buffalo Bills’ season-opening game Sunday at Baltimore and is not being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list at this point, the NFL said Monday. Police in Georgia continue to investigate a July home invasion at a house owned by McCoy, during which his former girlfriend allegedly was injured.
“There’s been no change to his status,” league spokesman Brian McCarthy said by phone Monday.
Although the situation is still ongoing, McCoy's availability to play remains given that nothing has been determined just yet. McCoy has remained confident throughout the process with no true concern of him being found to be involved with the matter. If the investigation goes charge McCoy, he could possibly receive punishment from the league in the form of a suspension, or something worse.
The Bills are counting on McCoy to be a major factor in the offense, as he has proven to be one of the most productive running backs in the league over the last few years. He is coming off another highly productive season where he finished fourth with 1,138 yards and six touchdowns while playing in all 16 regular season games. It marked his fourth 1,000-rushing yard season in the last five years, and the sixth of his career.
Unless there's a last-minute change, the Bills can count on McCoy to be a big piece of their puzzle offensively in 2018.
