It hasn't been easy for Buffalo Bills receiver Cam Phillips. The Virginia Tech product has had a bumpy road to the NFL, and he's had to fight through a lot of adversity. He tore a muscle in his core before his senior season in college, but elected to play through the injury instead of getting surgery.
He didn't want to hurt his already slim pro prospects, so he gutted through it. He ended up going undrafted anyway, and latched on with the Bills as an UDFA. He was banged up during their training camp, but still managed to impress enough to earn a spot on their practice squad.
The Bills made upgrading their receiving corp a priority this offseason, signing John Brown and Cole Beasley in free agency. The depth chart is now pretty crowded, and Cam Phillips will have a tough time making the roster. He's not concerned about any of that though, making that clear in recent comments to Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic.

Cam Phillips further explained how he's trying to stay locked in, saying “I just try to stay focused on what I can control and that’s doing my job. If you’re writing a book, you can’t worry about what the critics are going to say or what the books on the best sellers are, because then you’re not going to write your best book.”
While Phillips might be facing an uphill battle to make the roster, he can still earn a spot on the practice squad once again. The jury is still out on Phillips, and the book definitely hasn't already been written.
