For much of the offseason, there has been plenty discussed regarding Colin Kaepernick's situation, as he remains on the open market with little interest in him across the league.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is the latest to weigh in on the matter, stating that he believes Kaepernick is better than a few of the starting quarterbacks currently in the league.

He continued, via the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

“I really think it's not fair. I think it's unfair… Should he be on a roster? In my opinion, absolutely.”

There are a few teams in the NFL that have serious questions at the quarterback position, namely the New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Denver Broncos, who have all had competitions at the spot in training camp through portions of the preseason.

Kaepernick has shown in his first six seasons that he can be a capable starter with the San Francisco 49ers. Although he hasn't put up notable numbers as a passer, he has shown that he can help lead a team to success, helping lead the 49ers to two deep playoff runs, including a Super Bowl appearance.

It may just be a matter of time before Kaepernick gets a shot with a team that ends up needing to add a proven quarterback to the mix, and the 29-year-old certainly fits that bill with the body of work over his career.
