The Carolina Panthers have re-signed running back Elijah Hood to a one-year contract, according to Bryan Strickland of the Panthers' official team website.

Hood, who spent the entire 2018 campaign on the injured reserve list due to a torn ACL, is grateful that the Panthers are giving him another opportunity:

“Obviously it's a blessing. I'm excited. I thank God that I'll get the opportunity to keep playing here,” said Hood. “They're putting their faith in me. I'm expecting to deliver something.”

Hood also added that his rehab is “going great.”

The 22-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders in the seventh round (242nd pick overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He played in just one game with the Raiders during his rookie campaign and did not log a statistic. He spent most of his first year in the league on Oakland's practice squad before finally being waived last May. The Panthers picked him up off waivers a day later.

Hood then unfortunately suffered a torn ACL on the opening kickoff of Carolina's preseason finale, ending in him being placed on the injured reserve list on Sept. 1.

The halfback is a Charlotte native.

The Panthers are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won just seven games and missed the playoffs. They appeared to be a contender in the first half of the year, as they went 6-2 over their first eight games, but a shoulder injury to Cam Newton plus other issues took a toll on Carolina in the latter part of the season.
