The Carolina Panthers have signed wide receiver Rashad Ross, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ross had been playing for the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football league.

During his short stint in the AAF, Ross hauled in 36 receptions for 583 yards and seven touchdowns, and for a Panthers team that is in desperate need of wide outs, he could fill a role within the offense.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Arizona State University, went undrafted but eventually landed with the Washington Redskins in 2014.

He played in just two games with the Redskins that season before being waived and signed by the Chicago Bears, where he also appeared in two contests. He mainly served as a kick returner, returning five kicks for 106 yards.

The following season, Ross returned to Washington, and this time, he had a much larger role, participating in 13 games and logging eight receptions for 184 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of his production, however, came on special teams, as he returned 28 kicks for 684 yards and a score.

He spent one more season with the Redskins in 2016, but he played only scarcely, logging one catch for five yards and taking back one kick for 22 yards.

Ross then proceeded to bounce around between several teams through last summer, but he has not actually played in an NFL game since that 2016 campaign in Washington.

Now, however, it looks like Ross will finally get a shot.

The Panthers won seven games and missed the playoffs this past season in spite of a 6-2 start.
