As the Carolina Panthers look for their next head coach, it appears the team is focusing on a few veteran candidates. The Panthers hope a head coach with experience could help lead Carolina back into the postseason.

The Panthers are conducting second interviews with former Indianapolis Colts' head coach Frank Reich and interim head coach Steve Wilks, via NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Rapoport noted that the Panthers are focusing on an experienced head coach – like Wilks or Reich – while Cowboys' offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has also impressed Carolina's ownership.

Reich spent five years as the Colts head coach. He earned an overall record of 40-33-1 with two playoff appearances. However, he was fired from Indianapolis after Week 9, following the Colts' rough 3-5-1 start. Reich has been coaching in the NFL since 2006. Before becoming the Colts' head coach, Reich spent time as the offensive coordinator of both the Eagles and the Chargers. He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2017.

Wilks became the Panthers' interim head coach after Carolina fired Matt Rhule following a 1-4 start. The Panthers went 6-6 under Wilks. It was the second time Wilks has been an NFL head coach, although his one-year stint with the Cardinals in 2018 ended after just one year as Arizona held a 3-13. Outside of his time spent as a HC, Wilks has served as the Browns and the Missouri Tigers' defensive coordinator.

While the Panthers do have some interest in Moore, it looks like Carolina prefers a veteran head coach. The Panthers haven't made the postseason since 2017 and Carolina is hopeful a head coach with experience could help end their playoff drought.
