There have been question marks surrounding Graham Gano's status for the Carolina Panthers to begin the 2019 season. We may have answers now: The Panthers have placed Gano on injured reserve. He will be out for the season.

Since the beginning of training camp, Gano has been absent due to a leg injury on his plant leg. The veteran kicker ended the 2018 season on injured reserve due to the same injury he is still recovering from.

Graham Gano has been Carolina's kicker since 2012 and has been one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL in that span. From 2012-2018, Gano has made 165 of his 193 field-goal attempts (85.5 percent).

Last season, Graham Gano made 14 of his 16 field goal tries, including a game-winning 63-yarder to defeat the New York Giants. The Panthers have always been confident in Gano's ability to make his kicks but will be without his services in 2019.

Carolina will turn to a seemingly reliable option in Joey Slye, an undrafted rookie, who has turned some heads in the preseason with his kicking prowess.

The undrafted rookie made seven of his eight field goal attempts in the preseason. Slye nailed a 59-yard bomb against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night. Additionally, Slye's only missed attempt came on a play when his kick was blocked.

In Week 1, the Panthers will take on the high-flying offense of the Los Angeles Rams. They may need to rely on Slye to make some field goals to keep up with the reigning NFC champs.
