Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey has become the first non-quarterback in franchise history to throw a touchdown pass after his scoring throw against the New Orleans Saints.

The Panthers found themselves needing to get seven yards on a fourth down attempt, so head coach Ron Rivera went with the most predictable play ever: a halfback pass from McCaffrey.

Luckily for the star back, he connected in a big way by hitting tight end Chris Manzhert for a 50-yard touchdown to give the Panthers the first score of the game.

It also helped McCaffrey earn a great franchise honor by becoming the first non-quarterback to pass for a score, according to the NFL Research Department.

The former Stanford star has emerged as one of the most dangerous running backs in the league due to his ability to pick up a lot of rushing yards and receiving yards, but apparently, he's now adding passing yards to his skill set.

That may be a welcomed sight for the Panthers right now, as they're trying to find any type of momentum while in the middle of a five-game losing streak.

Carolina got off to an excellent 6-2 start, but things just haven't gone well for McCaffrey and company since that point, with the Panthers' playoff hopes now in serious jeopardy.

A win over the Saints would be huge heading into the final two games of the regular season, where they'll take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 16 before heading to New Orleans for a Week 17 rematch.
