The Carolina Panthers have a big season coming up. They started last year off 6-2 but then collapsed once Cam Newton's shoulder gave up. They looked destined for the playoffs at one point, but then the wheels came off when Newton could no longer throw the ball downfield.
Newton's injury was so bad they needed to shut him down with a couple of games left, and he had surgery on it after the season. The team is insisting that this isn't going to be an Andrew Luck situation and that they're hoping he's ready for training camp. All eyes are on Newton since he's the team's most important behavior, and naturally, his status is all the media wants to know about.
The constant obsessing over Newton's shoulder is clearly starting to bother Panthers coach Ron Rivera. A fan recently snuck into a private area and captured a five-second video of Newton throwing.
“Somebody came in and took a picture, which we really don’t appreciate because this is private property,” Rivera said Monday, per Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer. “Again, he’s going through the process of his rehab program. At some point, he’s going to have to throw the football. It just so happened that the other day, he did. And as I said, somebody came in a took a picture, which we really don’t appreciate the snooping on what we’re doing around here.”
While Rivera is peeved about the leak, the good news here is that Newton is already throwing. If the Panthers want to compete in what should be a very competitive NFC South next year, they're going to need Newton at full strength. The more time he gets throwing with his teammates, the better.
