Former Carolina Panthers quarterback and now Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater revealed a puzzling reality about practices in Carolina in his one year with the team.

Appearing on the “All Things Covered” podcast with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden, Bridgwater spoke about just how different practices with the Panthers were compared to ones he had been used to in years past.

“I’ll just say this, for Joe Brady’s growth, that organization, they’ll have to practice different things in different ways. One thing we didn’t do much of when I was there, we didn’t practice two minute, really. We didn’t practice red zone… You walk through the red zone stuff and then Saturday you come out and practice red zone, but you’d only get like 15 live reps. Guys’ reps would be limited.” – Teddy Bridgewater on the All Things Covered podcast.

Bridgewater's response shocked McFadden who noted teams he's played for will set aside a whole day a week to work specifically on the two-minute drill alone. That appears not to be the case with the Panthers.

There is no right or wrong and each team along with the coaching staff will have their own recipes for success. But given how critical the two-minute drill is and how frequently it can come into play in NFL games, one would think this would get plenty of attention and focus in practices. McFadden and Peterson both agreed with Bridgewater that it seemed unusual.

Bridgewater is known for being soft spoken and always taking the high road in matters. He wasn't necessarily jabbing the Panthers for this style as much as he was just explaining how different it was that they didn't emphasize it. Teddy took responsibility for his own play a year ago later on in the podcast when he noted he knows it's a performance based business and that the results matter.

Bridgewater was traded to the Denver Broncos this offseason from the Panthers for late draft compensation. Hopefully the two-minute drill is a point of emphasis in the Mile High City.
