Michael Rubin, the owner of the online retailer Fanatics, is reportedly interested in putting a bid on the Carolina Panthers.

The Charlotte Observer reports that Rubin is looking into a bid to buy the Panthers. Of note, Ian Rapoport is reporting there are between six-eight viable bidders.

Rubin sold an e-commerce business to eBay for $2.4 billion in 2011. He still maintains control of Fanatics, all of which is how his bid would be considered realistic and something Rubin can afford.

In what has been well documented at this point, Jerry Richardson put his team up for sale following allegations of workplace misconduct. After the allegations, the Panthers made a formal announcement of what they deem as “an internal investigation into allegations of workplace misconduct against the team’s owner and founder, Jerry Richardson.”

Since then, it has been pretty much crickets on the Richardson investigation front, with the National Football League not doing anything on its own. Then again, Richardson's timely selling of the franchise likely has something to do with it, as safe speculation suggests he's trying to get out of dodge before dodge gets him.

Nevertheless, the NFL could be voting on a new Carolina owner as soon as May if there are enough viable candidates to do so.
