It has been deemed a foregone conclusion that the Cincinnati Bengals will take LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, it remains to be seen what will come of quarterback Andy Dalton in the 2020 NFL season.

Dalton has seen the writing on the wall come to fruition this offseason. According to Michael Silver of NFL.com, he is optimistic that it will work out for the best:

“I truly believe they want what's best for me, but I understand it's a business, and you know how that goes,” Dalton said. “With the first pick, if they take a quarterback like everyone expects, that could trigger something. There's even a scenario where I go back there.”

There has been plenty of speculation regarding Dalton's future in Cincinnati. With Burrow expected to come in and make an immediate impact, it would make sense for them to part ways with his $17.7 million price tag for the upcoming season.

The Bengals could still opt to try and get something in return for Dalton or simply cut him. Then again, his comments indicate that him sticking around for one more season is not too far-fetched. Although they still have plenty of resources to work with, it is safe to say that they will need to find a way to lower his cap hit.

Keeping Dalton around could help to pay huge dividends for Burrow's development as a franchise quarterback. It remains to be seen if Dalton is up to the task of potentially serving as a bridge quarterback until the rookie is deemed ready to take over.
