The long-awaited debut of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has finally arrived with the 2020 NFL season opener versus the Los Angeles Chargers. It appears he is not wasting any time setting a new standard in Cincinnati.

Burrow is well-aware of the expectations that come with being the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The rookie has made it clear that the Bengals fully plan on competing for a championship, via ESPN's Ben Baby:

“If you're not striving for a championship, for perfection, what are you doing it for? I'm not out there to go .500 and squeak into the playoffs. I'm out here to win games and to win championships.”

It is certainly encouraging to see that Joe Burrow has not wavered in the standards he set during his final season at LSU. Of course, this winning mentality was exactly what the Bengals were hoping for when they decided to usher in a new era under center and it is now time to make it come to fruition.

Despite being in the midst of a rebuild, Cincinnati spared no expense to revamp the supporting cast on offense for Burrow's arrival this offseason. He has since followed through by emerging as a leader during training camp and being named as one of seven team captains going into the season.

Although it would have been safe for Burrow to temper expectations while he finds his footing at the next level, his comments indicate that is prepared to turn heads by sparking an immediate resurgence on offense for the Bengals.
