Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals broke the news himself: The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft tweeted on Sunday that he is out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury against the Washington Football Team.
Thanks for all the love. Can’t get rid of me that easy. See ya next year✊
— Joey Burrow (@JoeyB) November 22, 2020
The Bengals, it should be noted, had not yet officially ruled out Joe Burrow for the rest of the season. Burrow tweeted before the team released a statement.
Carted off the field by the team's medical staff following a combined hit by two of Washington's defenders on a third-and-short pass in the game's third quarter, Joe Burrow tumbled to the ground and quickly tended to his left knee.
A leading candidate for offensive rookie of the year coming into the game against Washington, Joe Burrow had accumulated over 2,400 passing yards and 12 touchdowns on the year, to go along with a completion rating of 66%. Despite leaving the game early in the second half, the quarterback had already gained over 200 passing yards with almost two quarters remaining, setting up what had appeared to be another 300-plus passing yard performance.
Had Joe Burrow done so, he would have become the first rookie in league history to throw for at least 300 yards in his six of his first ten games.
