LSU quarterback Joe Burrow is deemed as the surefire No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It appears he may not be as much of a safe bet as many pegged him to be.

Burrow has done everything he can to establish himself as a future franchise quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals. According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, one anonymous NFC coach feels there is some risk involved with taking him:

“He ends up with a pro coach (Joe Brady) in a really good system with the best players. He's a great processor and he is everything I'd want in a quarterback — if I took him in the second or third round. He's not a natural thrower, can't really pump it down the field. Now, he can throw it back-shoulder and uncovered and he's got anticipation, but that ball's wobbling. Love him, but I think he's a high-risk guy at 1.”

It appears that Burrow's status as a bonafide franchise cornerstone is not unanimous among NFL coaches. This may come as a bit of a surprise considering he is coming off one of the most impressive individual seasons in NCAA history. It was capped by a Heisman Trophy and a National Championship. Of course, this hardly makes him bust-proof.

Burrow will be taking on a tall task in helping to turn the Bengals franchise around in the midst of their grueling rebuild. Like any rookie quarterback, he will need some time to find his footing at the next level. Regardless, he is expected to come in and make an immediate impact as the starter in the 2020 NFL season.

If Cincinnati does view Burrow as a high-risk player, then it would make sense for them to explore potentially trading back and shoring up some more draft capital. They could also opt to keep quarterback Andy Dalton around to help serve as a stabilizing factor while giving him time to develop as a rookie.
