The Cincinnati Bengals are beginning to see that Ryan Finley likely isn't the answer at the quarterback position. With that being said, Joe Burrow would be exactly what the Bengals need in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Burrow is currently projected to be the first quarterback taken in the upcoming draft. The LSU quarterback has his team as the No. 1 ranked team in college football and is atop the list of candidates to win the Heisman Trophy.
As a senior, Burrow has completed an impressive 78.6 percent of his passes for 3,687 yards, 38 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He's also shown an ability to use his legs when needed by rushing for 215 yards and three touchdowns.
When the season began, Cincinnati was heading into their ninth season with Andy Dalton as their quarterback. Dalton would start the first eight games of the season but would later be benched in favor of Finley.
Before being benched, the veteran quarterback had thrown for 2,252 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Despite Dalton not being the main issue, the Bengals chose to make a change at the position.
During the team's bye week, rookie head coach Zac Taylor benched Dalton to see what he has in the team's rookie fourth-round pick. Initially, the hope was that Finley could show enough to be the possible long-term solution at quarterback.
However, that hasn't been the case at all in Finley's first two starts in the NFL. In the past two weeks, Finley has completed 47.5 percent of his passes for 282 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. The first-year quarterback has also fumbled the ball twice.
Even after the quarterback change, the Bengals still have yet to win their first game of the season. In terms of the draft, not having a win bodes well for Cincinnati.
As of this moment, the Bengals would have the No. 1 overall pick and would have the opportunity to select Burrow. Provided that, Burrow would also be a perfect fit for Taylor's offensive system.
Taylor seems to want a quarterback in his offense that is capable of making plays through the air and on the ground—when needed. It also helps to have a quarterback who can get out of the pocket, which Burrow has shown he is efficient outside of the pocket.
Above all, Burrow has proven that he can be a winner and leader as the quarterback of an offense. The Bengals desperately could use a spark in their offense in 2020 and Burrow brings them exactly that. The pairing of Burrow and the Bengals seems like a no-brainer at this point.
