Collins is a great player, but he was due $10 million this season and it's clear the Browns would like to spend their money elsewhere. Considering the Browns have a talented up and coming defensive roster, it's likely the team has plans to either address their needs in the draft or give other players a shot at claiming Collins' roster spot.
Article Continues BelowThere's a good chance Collins will not last very long on the free agent market. The now former Browns linebacker struggled to stay healthy in 2017 and in the six games he did play, Collins accounted for 31 tackles. Collins bounced back in 2018 with 104 tackles, four sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception.
The Browns are a young, promising team and ended the 2018 season on a solid note despite their Week 17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The offense looks great and the defense can't be taken lightly anymore. The team's front office must feel they can find another player to take over for Collins considering his struggles in Cleveland.
Unfortunately, Collins does have a championship under his belt and has played at a Pro Bowl level in the past, but he has not played to those capabilities since leaving New England. It's fair to assume at his age Collins will likely not be offered a long-term deal, but he could be a difference maker on a team in need of a solid linebacker.
