Cleveland Browns offensive line coach Bob Wylie suffered a fractured ankle during practice on Thursday, according to Nate Ulrich of The Akron Beach Journal.
Wylie had to undergo surgery on Thursday evening as a result of the injury. Fortunately, the procedure went well, and he is questionable for the Browns' game against the Cincinnati Bengals this Sunday.
The 67-year-old was named Cleveland's offensive line coach last season.
Wylie landed his first NFL coaching job back in 1990, when he given the post of tight ends coach for the New York Jets. Since then, he has bounced around between the ranks of the NFL and college, spending time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, and Oakland Raiders before finally arriving in Cleveland last year.
The Browns are coming off of an impressive road win over the Denver Broncos, which moved them to 6-7-1 and vaulted them into playoff contention in the AFC.
A lot would still need to happen for Cleveland to make the postseason, but the mere fact that the Browns are a playoff contender speaks volumes about how far they have come this season.
Cleveland made a coaching change in late October, firing Hue Jackson and elevating Gregg Williams to head coach. Since the swap, the Browns have gone 4-2, including a win over the Bengals—where Jackson now serves as an assistant—back on Nov. 25.
After playing host to Cincinnati this weekend, the Browns will head on the road to wrap up their regular season against the Baltimore Ravens.
