Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has played through a shoulder injury this season with mixed results. After Monday night's loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns announced that Mayfield would undergo season-ending surgery to repair the torn labrum in his shoulder. Mayfield and the Browns left his playing status open for Week 18, though head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed the status of his quarterback for Week 18.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield won't play in Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals, per head coach Kevin Stefanski. Mayfield, who acknowledged just how painful the injury is, will now look to get himself fully healthy for next season.

Meanwhile, Stefanski and the Browns, who were eliminated from playoff contention Monday against the Steelers, will turn to backup Case Keenum in a meaningless game against the Bengals.

The former top pick in the NFL Draft, Mayfield had a bit of a rocky season for Cleveland, as he took a step back from last year's strong campaign, throwing 13 interceptions after tossing just eight all last year, though his struggles can be partly attributed to the injury.

Stefanski and Mayfield seem to be the right partnership though, as they won a playoff game last year and gave the eventual AFC champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, a run for their money in the divisional round.

This season will undoubtedly leave a sour taste in the mouths of Baker Mayfield, Kevin Stefanski and Browns fans, though some better injury luck next year- and improved play from Mayfield- could have Cleveland right back in the mix in the AFC.
