The Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott are still trying to work towards a new deal and Cris Carter hopes to see one thing when a deal is completed, it resets the market for running backs.
"Zeke has to reset the market. He has to do it for all the RBs. When I was in the league, I was expecting Jerry Rice to be the highest paid. When you are the guy — just like Aaron Rodgers had to, Russell Wilson had to — because it makes it better for everyone else."—@criscarter80 pic.twitter.com/4tNYpMJiau

Carter thinks that Elliott getting a new deal as the highest-paid running back is important because of the other running backs in the league. If he resets the number that allows the next group of running backs that come along to get paid more.
The most important reason to be the highest-paid according to Carter is that the contract doesn't kick in for two more years. Carter doesn't think that anyone else will be getting a big paycheck in the next two years but he needs to makes sure that he is still the highest-paid running back when the new contract kicks in.
Article Continues BelowEd Werder of ESPN reported on Thursday that the Cowboys had offered a contract to Elliott that would make him the second-highest-paid running back in the league behind Todd Gurley.
Sources: The most recent offer in negotiations between holdout Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys came from the team. Elliott has been offered a contract making him one of the NFL’s 2 highest-paid RB. That would suggest team offering more than LeVeon Bell and less than Todd Gurley.

Werder didn't say exactly when that contract was offered, but it's clear he didn't accept it because he still isn't in camp with the Cowboys. Right now Elliott is subject to fines of $40,000 per day from the team, but the Cowboys are the ones who decide if they are going to fine him or not.
There are only a few more weeks before the Cowboys kick off their season against the New York Giants so hopefully this is all resolved soon.
