The Dallas Cowboys made headlines with their decision to part with defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. Fortunately, it appears they have managed to alleviate the move with a positive update on defensive tackle Dontari Poe.

According to Rob Phillips of the team's official website, Poe has been activated from the physically unable to perform list:

DT Dontari Poe passed his physical, so he’ll be activated from the Active/PUP list.

Poe has spent the offseason recovering from a quadriceps surgery after he suffered the injury back in December. Head coach Mike McCarthy had been optimistic about his activity and he will now be able to get back to work in training camp.

The Cowboys managed to poach the Carolina Panthers' former interior tandem from the 2019 campaign as part of their efforts to bolster the defensive line that also includes Everson Griffin and Aldon Smith. Unfortunately, they will only be able to move forward with on Poe after waiving McCoy due to his season-ending quad injury. Despite the loss, they clearly still have more than enough talent to take care of business up front.

Poe signed a two-year, $9.5 million deal with Dallas following a solid year in Carolina that saw him register 22 tackles and four sacks. He will now be tasked with serving as the anchor of this star-studded group that has not been shy about expressing their Super Bowl expectations for the 2020 NFL season.

Since there is no preseason, the longer ramp-up period in training camp should give Poe ample time to find his footing in the new system.
