After cashing in big time in the offseason, Dak Prescott got all the reassurance he needed that the Dallas Cowboys were fully investing in the star quarterback for the long run.

Coming off a gruesome ankle injury that ended his 2020 season abruptly, Prescott has been grinding to get back with the goal of starting Week 1 for the Cowboys. Now, a shoulder strain injury has popped up. According to Mike McCarthy, Dallas will take a very cautious approach:

It's worth noting McCarthy says they feel the same about the injury despite Prescott “taking a step back.” Perhaps the Cowboys are just acting with an abundance of caution with the start of the regular season still a month away. Worst-case scenario would be for Dallas to rush Dak back in for preseason action.

The Cowboys finally made the move this offseason to pay up for their star quarterback, agreeing to an extension of four-years and $160 million for Prescott. With a lot of pieces already in place on the offense, the biggest question remaining might just be Dak's health.

The NFC East will be up for grabs again after the Washington Football Team claimed it a year ago with a losing record. If Prescott is healthy and ready to go with no setbacks for Week 1, the Cowboys have as good a chance as anyone else in the division to claim the crown. For now, they'll take the conservative approach with their quarterback with the regular season a month away.
