The Dallas Cowboys have had a revolving door at kicker in recent years. Kai Forbath could be an answer for them in free agency.
Kai Forbath enjoyed an impressive stint with Dallas as a replacement during the 2019 NFL season. According to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys will be targeting either Forboth or Los Angeles Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein:
Cowboys expressed interest today in re-signing kicker Kai Forbath, source said. He was 10-for-10 in field goals during a three-game stint to end the 2019 season. Chance of a return, but Greg Zuerlein is on radar, too. He and John Fassel could reunite in Dallas at right price.
The interest from Dallas is certainly understandable considering both players are set to generate plenty of interest once free agency begins. It remains to be seen whether or not the price tag will grow too rich for their taste.
The Cowboys made headlines for the wrong reasons when they parted ways with kicker Dan Bailey prior to the 2018 campaign. His departure was magnified by kicker Brett Maher's struggles during the 2019 NFL season and they were eventually forced to replace him with Kai Forbath.
Although Kai Forbath did all he could to show he is the right man for the job, it appears Dallas will be exploring all potential options on the table. The prospect of signing an elite kicker like Greg Zuerlein is also an intriguing one considering his relationship with new special teams coordinator John Fassel. Of course, he is also coming off a disappointing 2019 campaign and his track record with injuries leaves much to be desired.
