The Dallas Cowboys believe they have their franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott and appear ready to pay him as such. With that in mind, it appears there's optimism that the two sides will reach a deal during training camp this year.

Dak Prescott's due for a new deal. Fellow NFC East quarterback Carson Wentz just got absolutely paid. With that in mind, it's no surprise the Cowboys want to counter the move made by the Philadelphia Eagles and lockdown their young quarterback as well.

Prescott struggled at times in 2018 but overall had a very strong year and his best to date. The 25-year-old threw for career-highs in yards (3,885) and completion percentage (67.7%) while throwing 22 touchdown passes (one off his career-mark).

He was a main cog in a team that won 10 games, winning the NFC East and making the playoffs.

What makes signing Prescott even more important is the other contract situation on the Cowboys at the moment. Dallas and running back Ezekiel Elliott don't appear to be nearly as close in contract talks as Prescott is. With that in mind, locking up your quarterback becomes that much more needed as you hope it will help sign your franchise running back as well. If not, as least you got your quarterback.

The Dallas Cowboys are in a division that should be fun for years. All four teams believe they have their franchise quarterbacks for the long-haul. Wentz and Prescott are proven. Wentz has been paid and now it's Prescott's turn.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants and Washington Redskins both drafted their new QBs (Giants took Daniel Jones and the Redskins took Dwayne Haskins). This is a recipe for one of the most intriguing division in the NFL for the next decade-or-so.

With all that to think about, it's clear the Dallas Cowboys need to lock up their franchise quarterback.

Now the only question is exactly how much Dak Prescott will be making.
