Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle David Irving is suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. Irving won't be suspended any more games after the NFL investigated a domestic violence claim by a former girlfriend who later recanted her story according to ESPN.

Irving's former girlfriend claimed that he had abused him and posted on his Twitter about it. Irving claimed she tried to pull the same thing at Iowa State.

The Frisco Texas police investigated the claims and cleared him of any wrongdoing. The NFL also completed an investigation and decided that a suspension wasn't worthy. The woman also issued a statement that retracted her previous comments and said that Irving didn't do anything wrong. Via SportingNews.

On April 22, the father of my child and my current boyfriend had a vocal argument that spilled out into our front yard. My neighbor's were concerned and called 911. I was very upset and made some allegations that were false at the time due to our vocal argument and my emotional state. I had no intentions of getting David into trouble, I was just very emotional and upset. I would like to be clear, although our relationship is not perfect, we love one another and David did not put his hands on me at anytime. I am deeply sorry this has caused both of us so much unwanted and undue attention. David is a great father and our focus is working on our relationship and raising our beautiful daughter. I would urge the media to please refrain from spreading this false story.

Irving is eligible for training camp and the preseasons game but will be suspended once the regular season starts. He can rejoin the team after Week 4.
