For quite some time now, the match between safety Earl Thomas and the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be one made in heaven. Thomas wanted the Cowboys, and the Cowboys certainly wanted Thomas.
However, it may not be all that realistic.
According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Thomas is aiming to become the highest-paid safety in the NFL, which would mean he would be earning more than the $13 million that Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry is making annually.
The problem is, that may be too lofty of a price tag for Dallas, and Thomas, a Texas native, does not seem all that keen on giving the Cowboys any kind of a hometown discount.
Article Continues BelowTaking into consideration that Dallas has to worry about handing out some big contracts to its own players, such as defensive lineman DeMarcus Lawrence and running back Ezekiel Elliott, it's looking more and more like Thomas will not be playing for the Cowboys in 2019.
Thomas played in just four games this past season due to a broken leg, finishing with 22 tackles, three interceptions, and five passes defended.
When he is healthy, however, Thomas is one of the best defensive backs in the league, as evidenced by the fact that he has made six Pro Bowl appearances while also earning three First-Team All-Pro selections.
The 29-year-old has spent the first nine years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, but it looks like the marriage between those two sides is coming to an end.
