Fox Sports has the Dallas Cowboys filling a big need by drafting LSU Tigers safety Grant Delpit with the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL draft.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have been trying to fill a safety need for the last couple of years. The Cowboys tried to trade for Jamal Adams at the trade deadline, and there is a chance they could try again during the offseason. If they don't end up landing Adams or another big safety early in the offseason, Delpit makes a lot of sense.
Delpit has all the makings of a star in the league, and in a few years, he could be the best players on the Cowboys' defense. He is good in both man and zone coverage and has excellent ball skills. Joe Marino of The Draft Network gave the following breakdown of his skills:

Confidently drives on the football in click and close situations and he has a quick trigger when attacking downhill against the run, especially when lined up in the box. Incredibly versatile with upside in man and zone coverage,” Marino said of the possible Cowboys safety. “Definitely checks the box with his ball skills – he’s sound a securing takeaways and disrupting at the catch point. Showcases good range to cover ground and contribute. Has proven to be an effective blitzer. Very intelligent player who processes quickly and always finds himself around the football.”
With a good predraft process, there is a chance Delpit could be off the board when the Cowboys pick, but if he is there at 17, that would be an excellent pick for the Cowboys.
